After the draw against Poland, it became known that the last match will be against Germany, from that moment there is nothing more important in the tournament for Austria than to be able to defeat Germany, the internal rival and fly to the quarter finals instead of Germany the world cup winner and one of the favorites for EURO 2008.Imagine this [France, Italy, Germany out of the tournament sooo early]

30 years back in Cordoba [1978 World Cup Argentina], an Austrian team with no chance of qualification to the quarter-finals beat West Germany 3-2 to take the reigning champions out of the tournament with them.

Austria coach said: “Too much has been said about Cordoba. For me, history is repeating itself. In 1989, we played the German Democratic Republic in Vienna in a decisive qualifier for the 1990 World Cup and won [3-0]. The names are different now, but we’re looking forward to the match.”
the German team has gone from the euphoria that led it to victory against Poland (2-0) to think that it can be eliminated by Austria.

Germany reaches the match as clear favorite, A draw would be enough for Germany to go to the quarter finals as Group B runners-up behind Croatia. Joachim Löw, Germany coach who had a great profile as
Jürgen Klinsmann assistant in the last World Cup 2006 and had more than a wonderful performance in the qualifying round to EURO 2008, did not show the same qualities in Euro 2008 finals according to the German press witch criticized him after Germany loss against Croatia.

Joachim Löw: “I promise you the team will play differently,” he said. “Thirty million people will be watching in Germany and we have to win for them and for our nation. The match against Croatia is a thing of the past. We’ll have to push to the limit because Austria have improved in the last few weeks and months. They’re a team of fighters but we will go the extra mile.”

Germany will be without Bastian Schweinsteiger after his red card against Croatia, and probably full-back Marcell Jansen, who has a shoulder injury,

Lukas Podolski, scorer of all three German goals so far, has overcome an ankle injury and will play.

Austria are also hit by the suspension of Sebastian Proedl, he had a second yellow card before the late penalty in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Poland.
